About us
Café Carlier is first and foremost a family story that brings back many childhood memories.
These memories are mainly associated with my dad and his love of good coffee. There are the packages delivered by the post office by the kilo and the electric coffee grinder that grinds coffee on Sunday evenings to prepare for the coming week.
Coffee also means sounds: the Moulinex coffee machine that automatically starts up at 7 a.m. sharp every morning. Then, of course, there is the unique aroma that fills the kitchen every morning.
And finally—and this was almost a trademark—it is very strong coffee: my father had a habit of measuring out 2 teaspoons per cup plus 1 teaspoon for the machine. When our friends from across the Atlantic visited us, the term “petit noir” (“little black”) was quite significant…
The Philosophy of Upcycling at Café Carlier
At Cafés Carlier, we made the bold decision to break with the logic of disposal or recycling and commit to a more ambitious philosophy: upcycling. Our approach has its roots in the wisdom of our grandparents, who carefully preserved their metal coffee pots, true household treasures passed down from generation to generation.
This fundamental vision guides every decision we make: instead of producing packaging that is destroyed and then restored in an energy-intensive cycle, we design containers that are built to last, to be used, and to live on beyond their original function.

Our metal tins embody this philosophy. They are sturdy, elegant, airtight, and designed to withstand the test of time and multiple uses. Unlike recyclable cardboard packaging, which is shredded and recycled after a single use, our metal containers retain their integrity and beauty, ready to hold new coffee or be reinvented according to our customers’ ideas.
For larger formats, our compostable bags offer a perfect ecological alternative: they decompose naturally without leaving any toxic residues and fertilize the soil instead of polluting it.
